Conditions of Entry -  The O’Keefe Challenge 2020


1. I, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators hereby waive and release the event organiser, its agents, affiliates, employees, members, sponsors, promoters, volunteers and any person, body or organisation directly or indirectly associated with the event all claims, demands and proceedings arising out or connected with my participation in this event and indemnify them against all liability for all injury, loss, or damage arising out of/or connected with my participation in this event. This release continues for ever and binds my heirs, successors, executors, personal representatives and assigns.


2. I hereby attest and verify that I am physically fit, and have sufficiently trained for the Event. I further attest and verify I do not have any physical or intellectual impairment that may make my participation unsafe for myself for others.


3. I understand that the Organiser reserves the right to alter the course and/or Event format, including changing the distance of the course due to any unforeseen circumstances. Such alterations may be due to the direction of the Local Government, Police, VicRoads, businesses or other organisations that are associated with the Event.


4. I hereby agree that if the Event is cancelled due to inclement weather that makes the Event dangerous, Act or God conditions or other factors beyond the control of the Organiser my entry fee shall be non-refundable.


5. If the participant is under the age of 18 as the guardian for the participant I agree to all race conditions and these conditions of entry on behalf of the participant.


6. If I am unsure of these conditions of entry and what they mean I will seek independent legal advice before entering the event as an individual or on behalf of my team.


7. I acknowledge the decisions made by the Organiser will be final in relation to race conditions, decisions and rules without the right to appeal these decisions.


Ekiden Relay


8. If I am registering a team in the Ekiden Relay I agree to provide these conditions to all team members before they participate in the event. On behalf of your team members you are taking responsibility in relation to clause 1.


During the Event:

9. I hereby consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident and/or illness during the Event.


10. I agree to follow the directions of course officials and marshals at all times. I understand that failure to do so may result in my immediate disqualification without the right of appeal or refund.


11. I understand that there is a time limit in which I am required to complete the Event. If, during the conduct of the Event, an Event official directs my withdrawal because I am likely to be unable to reach the cut-off marks within the advertised time limit, I undertake to comply with this direction. In these circumstances I will voluntarily remove myself from the course without liability to the Event organiser.


Privacy Statement; Information storage and use


12. The O’Keefe Rail Trail Marathon Inc. will collect and store the information you voluntarily provide to enable processing of registrations for the event, management of the event, to publish results and to provide you with information about this event or any other event within the City of Greater Bendigo. Your information will not be provided to third parties not associated with the race.


13. Information will be provided to relevant staff and medical professionals where necessary. You consent to these disclosures. Any information provided by you will be stored on a database that will only be accessed by authorised personnel and is subject to the National Privacy regulations. 

Future Promotions


14. I agree that my name / photos of me and / or sound and video recordings of me may be used to promote future events by the organisers.



Event Rules - The O'Keefe Challenge 2020


1. Field Limits

Maximum entry numbers apply as follows:

  • Marathon – 400 entrants

  • Half Marathon – 500 entrants

  • 10km – 400 entrants

  • 5km Fun Run/Walk – 400 entrants

  • Mile – 100 entrants

  • 500 m Dash – 100 entrants

  • Ekiden Relay – 70 teams

  • Scavenger Bike Ride – 50 teams

  • Light the Trail Night Ride – 200 entrants


2. Age Limits

Minimum ages for the events are as follows:

  • Marathon – must be aged 18 or more on the day of the event.

  • Half – must be aged 16 or more on the date of the event.

  • 10km – must be aged 11 or more on the date of the event unless an adult runs with the participant for the entire race.

  • Ekiden Relay – must be aged 11 or more on the date of the event unless an adult runs with the participant for the entire leg of their relay.

  • 5km Run/Walk – must be aged 11 or more unless an adult run/walks with the participant for the entire event.

  • Kids Race – no age limit

  • 500m Dash – no age limit

3. Prams, animals and other modes of transport

  • Prams, domestic pets, rollerblades, roller skates, scooters, skateboards and bikes (other than for race officials) are not permitted on the Marathon, Ekiden Relay and 500 metre dash courses.

  • Prams are permitted in the Half Marathon, 10km, 5km, Kids Race, and Ekiden Relay, but must start at the back of the field at the start line, take extreme care and be alert to other participants.

4. Entry Fees and Refunds:

  • All entry fees include GST and are not tax deductable.

  • Entry fees are non-refundable for the 5km Fun Run / Walk; Kids Race, Social Night Ride or 500 Metre Dash events.

  • Participants can transfer to another event, however, a $30.00 administration fee will be charged for any event change. Please contact us via

5. During the Event:

  • Participants must follow the directions of course officials and marshals at all times. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification without the right of appeal or refund.

  • Participants, if supplied with a race bib, must wear their race number bib at all times during their event.

  • Participants who fail to complete the course must report to race officials at the finish area or the closest aid station.


6. Future promotion:

  • Unless you direct us not to by contacting, we may wish to publish results in the media and use photographs, sound and video recordings taken of the event for promotional purposes including websites and social media associated with the event and any other reasonable expectation associated with the events promotion.

  • As with parkrun, if you do not wish to have your photo taken please cross your arms across your face.

7. Under 18s

  • If a participant is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must agree to all entry conditions on behalf of the participant.
