As announced earlier in the news of the marathon event we have Brady Threlfall the current Victorian Marathon Champion acting as pacer in the race.
Brady was not necessarily going to pace our sub 3 hour runners and being a community event the focus was an area where we viewed times in the entry forms and if their was a concentration particularly in one area then that would be a goal time.
We are pleased to announce that Brady will pace the 3 hour and 30 minute group. The focus will be on 4 minute 55 second km pace.
Secondly we will now add a pacer for a 4 hour group and this will be local experienced trail runner Craig Feuerherdt. His focus will be on 5 minute 35 second km pace.
Questions have been asked on how fast the course is. If you are expecting to run quicker than you would on road marathons at Gold Coast, Adelaide or Melbourne then it will be a challenging task. Nevertheless this is a rail trail so the race profile is fairly flat with slight declines and inclines only and for an off-road surface the trail is in excellent shape.
There are two decent hills in the event but they are in the first half of the event as you go through one of the few bitumen areas of the race in the township of Axedale. Burns Street has a 200 metre difficult climb at the 15km mark and at the 16.7km mark after you run next to the Campaspe River there is a 300 metre incline as you leave Axedale (note in Axedale we detour off the trail slightly to remove additional residential crossroads and hence the climb that is not normally on the O'Keefe Trail being Burns St).
At around the 29km mark you will enjoy a nice decline before the challenge of the last 12km kicks in.
Good luck to everyone and thanks to Brady and Craig.
