When most people hear the words ‘O’Keefe Challenge’ they immediately think ‘marathon’. But for those looking for a more ‘leisurely’ challenge for a great cause there’s the Connally’s Real Estate Run / Walk Against Dementia 5km.
The 5km Connally's Real Estate Run / Walk Against Dementia, to be held on Sunday 28 April 2019, will take runners on a picturesque course starting and finishing at Barrack Reserve in the heart of Heathcote.
Runners and walkers will be able to take in some of Heathcote's hidden gems in the Liquid Ambers and the McIvor Creek Trail, all whilst raising money for the Heathcote Dementia Village Project and the Heathcote Dementia Alliance.
“We are delighted to be supporting the O’Keefe Challenge again and particularly thrilled to be sponsoring the 5km Run and Walk against Dementia,” said Anita Connally of Connally’s Real Estate.
“The Heathcote Dementia Village Project is very dear to us,” Anita continued. “But we also find it very exciting as we can see how much of a game-changer it promises to be for the Heathcote community and for those living with Dementia.”
The proposed 150-place state-of-the-art Heathcote Dementia Village Project will focus on developing models of care that meet consumer needs and are cost effective and be the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere. It will be designed as a teaching, research and workforce development centre and employ 260 staff.
“Our 5km event is similar in style to the popular parkrun in that we encourage the participation of the local community in promoting health, fitness and wellbeing,” O’Keefe Challenge Event Director, Nigel Preston said.
“Times are not as important. The aim is to finish and to support this great cause.”
All participants who complete the course will receive a specially crafted ‘Forget Me Not’ (which is the symbol for dementia) medals of participation.
