In a new addition for 2019, riders in The O’Keefe Challenge’s Light The Trail night ride will roll into Palling Bros. Brewery on High St in Heathcote.
“We think it's the ultimate in ‘Trails and Ales’ experience.” Event Director, Nigel Preston said.
“Peter and his team at Palling Bros. Brewery are strong supporters of the local Heathcote community, so when we asked if we could host our 'end of ride' there, they responded with an emphatic: 'Yes'!
Palling Bros. is an independent Craft Brewery in Heathcote, with a full kitchen offering tasty food.
Up to 100 riders of all ages are invited to experience this magical part of the world at night in our Light The Trail Friday night ride. This is a unique experience riding from Axedale to Heathcote guided by their own light (and possibly the moon).
Riders will need to bring their own bicycle, helmet, front and rear lights, water and comfortable clothing. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. The event’s tail-end-charlie (named Kevin) will ensure that EVERY participant makes it to the finish.
The 26km ride will follow the O'Keefe Challenge Marathon Course along the O'Keefe Rail Trail starting in Axedale at the park on the corner of McIvor Highway and Mitchell St.
For those worrying about speed, don’t be: This really IS a social ride. No times are recorded for any riders and normal cycling laws apply for participants.
Prizes will be awarded at Palling Bros. Brewery for 'Best Illuminated Outfit', 'Best Lit Bike' + an 'Encouragement Award' for those who have demonstrated the spirit of the O'Keefe Challenge.
To help get riders home, Bendigo Coachlines are offering up to 40 riders a lift back on a bus with a bike trailer at the end of the evening. (First in, best dressed! The bus can be booked during registration.) Otherwise, riders can ride back to Axedale unguided or get a lift from a friend.
